Individual Grief Counseling | Portland, OR

Your grief is unique to you and your loved one. In our sessions, we will start with where you are. Bereavement can be an overwhelming and intense emotional experience. Your sessions will be a time and place for you to share your memories of your loved one and to talk about what is challenging you in each season of your grief. We will work together to create and discover your unique path of healing.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I draw from many counseling tools to support you in finding meaning and healing after loss. We will work together to create the support you are seeking and utilize the healing tools that work best for you.

Individual sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes.

If you are seeking more intensive support, I have a few times each week where I am now scheduling 90-minute intensive sessions.

I see clients both in person and via telehealth. I currently see clients in person on Thursdays at my Lake Oswego office. All other sessions are currently telehealth.

What Is Individual Grief Counseling?

Grief counseling is a specialized form of therapy that supports people after the death of a loved one or other significant loss. While grief is a natural response to loss, it can feel disorienting, lonely, and deeply painful.

Individual grief therapy offers:

  • A confidential, one-on-one space

  • Time to process the emotional impact of loss

  • Support in navigating identity changes

  • Compassionate witnessing of your story

  • Space for meaning-making and integration

Unlike general counseling, grief therapy centers the relationship you had, the complexity of your experience, and the ongoing nature of mourning.

How Grief Therapy Can Help

Grief does not follow a linear timeline. In our work together, we may explore:

Sudden or traumatic loss

Complicated or prolonged grief

Death of a parent, partner, sibling, or child

Pregnancy or infant loss

Anticipatory grief

Loss of identity, role, or future

As a psychodynamically informed therapist, I help you gently understand how your grief connects to your history, relationships, and inner world — creating space for healing that honors your attachment, not erases it.

What to Expect in Individual Sessions

Sessions are 50–60 minutes and are held in person at my NW Portland office:

2066 NW Irving St, Suite 4

Portland, OR 97209

Telehealth sessions are also available for clients located in Oregon.

Our work is collaborative and paced according to your needs. Some clients seek short-term support around a recent loss, while others engage in longer-term therapy to integrate grief more deeply into their lives.

There is no “right” way to grieve. Together, we create a space that feels steady, thoughtful, and grounded.

You are in the right place.

Finding the right therapist matters. Grief work requires presence, safety, and care.

  • How long does grief counseling last?

There is no set timeline for grief therapy. Some individuals seek support for several months after a recent loss, while others engage in longer-term work to process complex or layered grief experiences.

How is grief different from depression?

While grief and depression can share symptoms such as sadness, fatigue, and withdrawal, grief is typically connected to a specific loss and often includes moments of connection or meaning. Therapy can help differentiate and support both experiences appropriately.

Do you offer telehealth grief counseling in Oregon?

Yes. In addition to in-person sessions in Portland, I offer telehealth therapy for clients located in Oregon.

Is grief counseling helpful for complicated grief?

Yes. Therapy can be especially supportive when grief feels stuck, overwhelming, or prolonged. Individual sessions create space to gently explore and integrate difficult emotions.
